The purpose of preaching is to bring about life change, in both the congregation and in the preacher. Life change is what makes preaching different from any other form of communication. For if we can change lives we can change families, cultures and countries. Remember what was said of Paul in Thessalonica - He had turned the world upside down - how Miracles, healing, protesting, no by preaching the word of God. Over the last few years I have used a variety of styles in preaching...
- Textual
- Topical
- Narrative
- Expository
Unfortunately when we preach topical or textual sermons we can find ourselves not covering the full counsel of God. This Sunday, I am beginning a new series from the gospel of Mark; with the goal of preaching through the book verse by verse or what is known as expository preaching. So far I have outlined the first chapter of Mark and discovered I will be covering the topics of baptism, the divinity of Christ, discipleship and the compassion of Christ. I must say I am really excited about this series and I look forward to reconnecting with this gospel. Over the next few weeks I will report the results of what I think will be a very good series of growth for the myself and the congregation at PBCC.
