The Real 99%

There has been a lot of talk about the "Occupy Movement" over the last few weeks. There have been protesters from New York to Oakland CA. One of the signs being floating around the internet is the is the one of the man stating he is the 99%. The message is clear that 1% of the country's population holds an enormous amount of country's wealth, while 99% of us are struggling to get by in this economy. But let's put things in perspective; in this country the 99% are very wealthy compared to the world. In fact here are a few things to consider...
  • If you woke up this morning with more health than illness… you are more blessed than the million people who will not survive this week.
  •  If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of starvation, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation… you are ahead of 500 million people in this world.
  • If you attend a church service without fear of harassment, arrest torture or death… you are more fortunate than 3 million people around the world today.
  • If your family owns more than one Bible, you are ahead of 78% of the world.
  • If you can read your Bible, you are more blessed than 2 billion in the world who cannot read at all.
  • If you have food in your refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep… you are richer than 75% of the world.
  •  If you have $100 in the bank, $2 in your wallet and a spare change in a dish someplace in your home,  you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.
For many of us, we are the 1% compared to the world. Recently, I saw this picture on a friend's facebook page. This gives a little perspective, does it not? Let us remember how blessed we truly are today!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts From An Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped with the fine family of First Christian Church Kissimmee today.
  • Adam did a great job preaching on Greed.
  • He had a fresh perspective on the subject.
  • We must understand we are simply managers of all we have, not owners.
  • His two-fold challenge to defeat greed was begin to be a percentage giver and a spontaneous giver.
  • How many times are you challenged when you attend church?
  • Here is a great verse to consider when checking your greed IQ.
  • For many of us greed is a subtle sin that invades our life.
  • Nick and the team did a great job leading worship, especially on "Joyful, Joyful we adore Thee"
  • Had lunch with some good friends today; food was good, the company was great.
  • Roundup is this week at Florida Christian College, this will be a busy week, but I am looking forward to reconnecting with many alumni of the college.
  • J.C. Penneys has their Christmas decorations up!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped with the First Christian Church of Stark family today - this has to be one of the most gracious churches in the state.
  • Preached on the subject; What Jesus would not do!
  • Jesus would not miss an opportunity.
  • Are you looking for opportunities to tell others about Jesus?
  • Are you looking for opportunities to serve others in the name of Christ?
  • Read a post on FACEBOOK from an alumnus who is proud of Florida Christian College! I am glad I am on the current team at FCC.
  • Visited the North American Christian Convention site for the 2012 convention Friday; three words - don't miss it!
  • I had an opportunity to hear the college's community music choir Saturday, If you want a real treat you need to hear them at our annual night of noel.
  • We are starting to experience a little bit of Fall and it is wonderful.
  • The last three weeks have been tough for gator fans!
  • Something to Chew on; Leadership is not magnetic personality that can just as well be a glib tongue. It is not "making friends and influencing people", that is flattery. Leadership is lifting a person's vision to higher sights, the raising of a person's performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Great worship today with the FCC/Kissimmee Family.
  • Jim's final illustration "He does not cost us anymore" sure was powerful.
  • While many churches are giving up on Bible School, in my opinion, FCC/Kissimmee still has a very effective one. I really enjoy our class - Thanks Larry!
  • I loved getting together with the Florida Christian College Trustees this past Friday, this group of men and women are going to help set the course of Florida Christian College for the next generation.
  • Heading to FCC/Stark next week to preach - I can't wait.
  • Looking forward to Tuesday at Florida Christian College as ministers from around the state join us to discuss being the best church for the community.
  • I cannot believe  there have been 6 weeks of college football already!
  • Something to Chew on; The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership. ~ Harvey S. Firestone

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Heard a great sermon on giving this morning at FCC Kissimmee.
  • Giving is not necessarily money it also includes the giving of oneself.
  • Mediate on these verses for a while; Psalm 62:11,12 ~ One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving.  Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done.
  • It was really thrilling to see the impact of a church that gives $100,000 to missions every year.
  • Glad to be a church that never responds with "let us walk preacher, let us walk!"
  • I heard about an amazing dog today - he was a super mutt!
  • God's providence is absolutely amazing.
  • Cancer is so limited, it cannot corrode faith, shatter hope, kill friendships, cripple love, destroy peace, silence courage, suppress memories or conquer the spirit.  It can only end our physical life.
  • My friend Dave is facing some pretty extreme life changes over the next 9 months, however I am amazed at his faith and outlook.
  • There is nothing like sharing a meal with good friends to realize how blessed you truly are in this life.
  • I am so thankful for the opportunity to begin anew every day!
  • Something to Chew on; The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers. ~ by Ralph Nadar
