Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts From an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped with some friends in Jacksonville at the Creekside Christian Church this morning.
  • Great message on the God the Rescuer.
  • First sermon I have have heard on Hell in a long time. Why don't we hear more messages on the reality of Hell?
  • Interesting stat this morning; 70% of people believe they are going to heaven, however only 0.5% believe they are going to Hell.
  • When you come to a crossroad in your life, it is amazing how much wisdom comes from godly friends
  • One of the great challenges in life is to keep your intensity over the long haul. So many people simply do not finish the race.
  • I wonder if Dwight Howard wished he would have stayed in Orlando?
  • I realized today, my blood is too thin for these cold nights. Brrrrr
  • Am I the only person in America who has not seen Les Mes yet?
  • I am preaching Easter Sunday - I am really excited!
  • Something to Chew on; If I had to do it all over again, I'd get help. ~ John Ghengan

It is your move

Came across this passage of scripture today...

The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” So Abram went, as the Lord had told him.Genesis 12:1-4

My latest edition of Leadership Journal covered the topic of "The Calling". The journal covered the idea of what does it mean to be called by God. Most of the time we think of a call as something a person receives to go into full time service as ministry professional. However the more I study the idea of God's calling as found in scripture the more I discover the "The Call" is not simply for the professional, the call is for everyone of us to heed the voice of God and to do what he as asked us to do. The call comes in a variety of ways and encompasses a variety of activities. Think about it...
  • Noah was called to be a builder and sea captain
  • Joseph was called to be a rescuer of nations
  • Moses was called to be a deliverer
  • Joshua was called to be a military leader
  • David was called to be a king
  • Daniel was called to be a prime minister
  • Peter and Andrew were called to be fishers of men
  • Paul was called to be messenger to the Gentiles

Each "call" was designed to use the unique gift set that was a part of the personality of the one being called. What made each call unique was not the gift set of the one called, but the fact they answered when called. Did you note verse Genesis 12:4, So Abram went as the Lord had told him. Abraham did not ask for details or directions. He did not question whether it was a good move for him professionally or personally, he simply went as the Lord had told him. While some of the people in scripture were reluctant to answer the call (Moses and Peter, just to name two) It was the faith of Abraham that gave him the courage and the determination to simply go as the Lord had told him. As a result of his answering the call Abraham earned the distinction of being called a Friend of God. Abram was God's friend not because of certain skill set or his connections with the city of Ur. He was God's friend because he was willing to answer the call.

I think we would all like to called a friend of God and the good thing is we can be if we are willing to answer when he call us.

So be attuned to His voice, for I believe he is calling today...

It is your move!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts From an Amazing Day...

  • Preached on the topic of Biblical Leadership this morning at Okeechobee Christian Church.
  • Sermon Takeaway, Healthy churches are led by spiritually healthy leaders.
  • When looking for a leader do you want smart men or spiritual men; I will take a spiritual man every time!
  • Who ever likes the idea of majority rules in a church setting does not understand Biblical Leadership.
  • A plurality of elders always trumps the idea of a single pastor governance when it comes to the Lord's church.
  • Les Harden's words at Chapel last Tuesday still inspire me. Check out the final thoughts from his message here.
  • I am heartbroken by the words I received from a former member of my youth ministry in Anderson Indiana. John and Candace remember these words from the Apostle Paul.
  • It was a little weird not finding a football game on TV today.
  • March madness is just around the corner!
  • I realized this week it was 15 years ago this month that I moved out of youth ministry and began preaching on a weekly basis. What a journey.
  • Heads up, S.G. is coming to my house Friday night.
  • Something to Chew on; In order to succeed, you must know what you are doing, like what you are doing, & believe in what you are doing. -Will Rogers
