Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.

  • Tonight I attended the Christmas Eve service at River Run Christian Church in Melbourne.
  • Little Savannah did a wonderful job in the role as Carrie Ingalls! A star is born; Well I could be a little prejudice!
  • I always find this song so haunting, but this version is unique and was part of the worship service tonight.
  • Do you remember when all stores closed at 6:00 pm on Christmas Eve?
  • In 8 days we will begin a new year, what resolutions will you make in the New Year?
  • Found out this week, one of our Christmas guests is bringing Peanut Butter Fudge to our Christmas dinner - there goes the diet. Can break a new year resolution before the new year begins?
  • Something to Chew on; My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: love others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that? ~ Bob Hope

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church today.
  • Jim preached a powerful message about the church.
  • When the local church is working as God designed, the church is an unstoppable force for change in this world.
  • There is something comfortable about belonging to a local body of believers.
  • I will not be traveling for the next four weeks, can I get a hallelujah!
  • Great time spent with family on Thanksgiving day, good food and better company!
  • A special guest made the day special.
  • When I look back over the last year I can say I am truly blessed!
  • I do not mean to brag, but I tell awesome bedtime stories. If you do not believe me just ask Savannah!
  • The best thing about Black Friday was the prime parking spot I found at Kohl's (right by the front door), the worst thing about Black Friday was the long lines at the cashier (also at Kohl's)!
  • Well, at least the gator's football season is over.
  • I have not followed UCF football much, but Friday's game was pretty exciting!
  • Something to Chew On; Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. ~ William Arthur Ward

  • Key thought #1 from today's message; Gratitude is always a choice.
  • Key thought #2; There can be consequences for ingratitude.
  • Watching Pastor Keith minister to his congregation during worship was amazing.
  • I am praying this prayer personally; Lord, open my eyes and heart to those who are hurting during this season.
  • FCC Cape Coral is the 161st church I have visited on a Sunday since I started working for JUFL.
  • This week I traveled 1,236 miles on University business, that is way too much time looking through a windshield.
  • BTW, I never left Florida!
  • 39 students from JUFL attended the International Conference on Missions this past week, I cannot wait to hear some of the stories they will share in the coming weeks.
  • My favorite holiday is this week!

  • Celebrated my dad's 80th birthday yesterday, I really love time with my family.
  • Only 2 weeks left in the college football season - it is almost over. I must admit it has been a tough season to be a Gator fan.
  • John Ortberg's book, "Soul Keeping" is an excellent read!
  • Who knew glow sticks could be so much fun.
  • Something to Chew on; Wisdom is not the product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it. ~ Albert Einstien

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at River Run Christian Church in Melbourne this morning on the Authority of God's word.
  • Wonderful time seeing many friends from years past. There really is nothing like the family of God!
  • Key Lesson #1, When one evaluates the structure and uniqueness of the Bible, one comes away with the conclusion the Bible is the Word of God.
  • Key Lesson #2, we are not saved by believing the Bible we are saved by believing in the One who is revealed in the Bible; Jesus!
  • Great time at Roundup yesterday, so good to reconnect with alumni and friends of JUFL.
  • Once again I am humbled by the generosity of God's people.
  • BTW, generosity is not always tied to resources, some of the most generous people I know have limited resources.
  • While yesterday was the Last Roundup, I am looking forward to the new opportunities on the horizon for the University.
  • Now that the Gator's season is all but over, it looks like my Saturdays are freed up.
  • Looks like it is time to turn my attention to college basketball.
  • I have to admit the extra hour of sleep was wonderful last night.
  • 50 days until Christmas! How can that be!
  • Two very special birthdays this week, my dad turned 80 yesterday and my oldest son turns 37 on Wednesday.
  • I can understand my dad turning 80, but how can I have a 37-year-old son?
  • Something to Chew on; Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face. ~ Ronald Regan

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Wonderful message from Luke 16 on the subject of having an eternal perspective.
  • In spite of all the things calling for my attention, I hope I live with an eternal perspective.
  • Great watching the student ministry take the lead in worship this morning.
  • Also, the baptismal waters stirred once again!
  • I am representing JUFL in three churches over the next 3 Sundays and then it is Thanksgiving, What happened to 2017.
  • The longer I live the more I understand the need for rhythm in our lives, rest is essential for good health.
  • We are saying goodbye to one of our events at the university this Saturday as we gather for the Last Roundup. It is time for something new.
  • This week I finished reading the book, "God is in Control" by Charles Stanley. This small book is a great read regarding the sovereignty of God in our lives.
  • While I appreciate the extra hour of sleep we will have next Saturday evening, I do not like the fact it will be dark at 6:00 pm starting next week as Daylight Savings Time ends.
  • She likes the Big 10, I like the SEC I am sure we will have some interesting conversations during the college bowl season!
  • Something went amiss in Gainesville, AGAIN!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Great message from Luke 16 about the Rich Man and Lazarus.
  • Key thought;  Lazarus sat outside the gate of the rich man, so the rich man had to walk past Lazarus daily. How many people do we walk past as we go to church each week?
  • Another great worship song, that I would like to hear more often during a time of worship.
  • Spent time with my dad this weekend, dementia is a terrible illness.
  • Will we ever find a cure for such a debilitating disease?
  • Attended a funeral of a long time preacher yesterday. Once again we were reminded; Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on... They may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them.
  • Well, the Gators did not lose this weekend!
  • I am often amazed how the theater can truly transform a stage into a moving Broadway production.
  • When you are 58 years old and you are trying to take a selfie... well let's just say there is room for improvement.
  • When will White Chocolate Oreo show up on grocery store shelves?
  • Pumpkin Spice is everywhere, but pumpkin spice Oreos is just wrong!
  • Something to Chew on; Human beings by their very nature are worshippers. Worship is not something we do; it defines who we are. You cannot divide human beings into those who worship and those who don't. Everybody worships; it is just a matter of what or whom, we serve. ~ Paul David Tripp

  • Exciting to hear what is on the horizon for this body of believers
  • Question; does your church welcome the Chaos of Belief?
  • Another Florida church closed this past Sunday, sad to receive the news.
  • Attended a "Celebration of Life" service for a dear Christian sister this past Saturday. My heart hurts for her family!
  • Remember "There will be a day"
  • You look forward to the college football season all year and then your team lays a couple eggs the last two of weeks and you think I waited all year for this!
  • I guess there is always next year!
  • Attended a High School football game Friday night, High School has changed a lot since 1976!
  • While the game was tough to watch the company was great!
  • Chihuahuas make me smile.
  • Purchased a new Ortberg book this weekend, can't wait to dive into this new read.
  • Something to Chew on; In my deepest, darkest moments, what really got me through was a prayer. Sometimes my prayer was "Help Me". Sometimes a prayer was "Thank You". What I have discovered is that intimate connection and communication with my creator will always get me through because I know my support, my help is just a prayer away. ~ Iyania Vanzant

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at Fort Caroline Christian Church in Jacksonville today on the subject of the compassion of Christ.
  • Wonderful worship by Damon and the team.
  • Baptismal waters stirred once again, what a great day!
  • The greatest of compassion we can show others is to introduce them to Jesus Christ!
  • I really enjoy preaching!
  • Why does movie theater popcorn taste better than popcorn popped at home?
  • Friendship Defined; The ability to speak the truth, even when it hurts!
  • Today is clergy appreciation day, I hope my preaching colleagues know they are loved by their flock and if not, remember we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying please people, but God, who tests our hearts. 1 Thessalonians 2:4
  • I was reminded today that Indiana won their football game and the Gators did not. Oh, how that hurts!
  • How can the Gators and Seminoles not be in the top 25, but UCF and USF are ranked. The power is a shifting!
  • Something to Chew on; I cannot even imagine where I would be today if it were not for a handful of friends who have given me a heart full of joy. Let's face it, friends make life a lot more fun. ~ Charles Swindoll.

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts about an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at New Beginnings Christian Church in Tampa this morning.
  • Three services plus Sunday School, I have very little voice left today.
  • My hat is off to my fellow preachers who preach multiple times on Sunday, you guys are real warriors. I do not think congregations realize how difficult it is to preach multiple times on Sunday.
  • When I recall the history of CFBC/FCC/JUFL in my church presentation, I am amazed how God has used a college in Central Florida to impact the world for Christ.
  • Here is a question I have been pondering lately; Why do so many church leaders act like church managers rather than church leaders? Maybe they have forgotten their BIBLICAL calling as God's shepherds of God's church.
  • Why does cable TV cost so much?
  • Why have they not invented Pumpkin Spice bottled water?
  • Attended a funeral of a young man this week, I really long for the day when God will wipe away every tear!
  • The Fall TV season is upon us, nothing is really grabbing my attention.
  • I am always amazed at the friendliness of Disney cast members, their customer service rocks.
  • Something to Chew on; When you stop expecting people to be perfect, you can like them for who they are. ~ Donald Miller

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning and then returned to KCC to preach for the evening service.
  • Jim and I both preached on the topic of Love today, funny how we both preached on the same topic and yet had different takes on the topic.
  • The takeaway from the morning message; The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference.
  • The takeaway from the evening message; Love is must be demonstrated if it is to be genuine in the community of believers.
  • Once again I was reminded of the community of believers as I met the first youth intern who served with me back in my youth ministry days. So good to see you today, Bill.
  • I am so blessed by the kind comments of so many friends.
  • Every Sunday is a good day, but this one was especially a good Sunday!
  • The MVP of the month Septemeber has to be the Linemen of the electric power companies, we really do take for granted the convenience of flipping on a light switch and having lights until the power is taken out by a natural disaster.
  • How can this be the last Sunday in Septemeber?
  • I think the Gators are living close to the edge. In fact, in the words of the theologian Jon Bon Jovi; they may be living on a prayer!
  • Something to Chew on; Only the guy who isn't rowing the boat has time to rock the boat. ~ Jean-Paul Sartre

  • Preached at Homeport Christian Church in St. Augustine this morning.
  • Today's message focused on the grace of God in times of disaster.
  • Great worship this morning. Favorite worship song today; Cornerstone by Hillsong.
  • In times of great disaster, the church has a great opportunity to shine.

  • Dementia is such a cruel disease.
  • The university hosted the world's best lock in this week as 60 JUFL students spent  5 days in the Chapman Center riding out the Hurricane.
  • Ok, one last time; the right lane of the interstate is for slower traffic, the left lane is for passing! This cannot be too difficult. And don't get me started about turn signals!
  • A great time at Disney Thursday evening as we needed a break from all the Hurricane stress. BTW the Frozen Sing-Along show has got to be one of my favorite shows.
  • Endless shrimp at Red Lobster is a great way to celebrate a birthday, right Suzy!
  • What a catch! If you are Gator fan you know what I am talking about!
  • Something to Chew on; If we don't serve regularly or give financially, we should probably stop referring  to the church we attend as being "my church."  Really without sacrifice and commitment, you are just a visitor. ~ Toney Salva

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Because of Hurricane Irma, Worshiped at home this morning.
  • It has been a long time since I was not in a worship service on a Sunday morning.
  • So blessed by the worship offered on many of our church's websites today. Today's technology is making the gospel message accessible to so many people, rain or shine.
  • How many churches will use this song next week in worship?
  • First, it was Michigan and now Irma, will I ever see the Gators play a good game this year?
  • Is it me, or do snacks taste better during a hurricane?
  • Helped a friend "Board" her house this weekend in anticipation of the coming storm. So glad I was able to help! She rewarded me with Brownies and Cookies, I think she gets me!
  • My parents celebrated 60 years of marriage this weekend, in a culture that has a skewed view of marriage it is comforting to know there is a couple who took their vows of marriage seriously, congratulations Mom and Dad!
  • Something to Chew on; God is our protection and our strength. He always helps in times of trouble. So we will not be afraid even if the earth shakes or the mountains fall into the sea, even if the oceans roar and foam. ~ Psalm 46:1-3

  • Excellent message on how one receives or reacts to the word of God.
  • Thanks Jim for being so committed to the truth in a world that desperately needs to hear the truth.
  • I pray the seed of the gospel is always sown in the lives of the people through the ministry of Kissimmee Christian Church.
  • Special treat tonight; I am going to hear the Brooklyn Tabernacle Chrior perform!
  • Johnson University Florida has added two weekly prayer times on our campus, it is exciting to see what God is going to do though these dedicated prayer times!
  • I am saddened when I hear of churches and or ministers in crisis.
  • Jesus prayer for unity in the church was not a suggestion, it was a mandate for His church!
  • Congratulations to Emma and Andrew, so great to see a fine young couple commit to one another in the act of marriage.
  • I cannot believe I waited all summer for college football to start and the Gators had an epic fail. Maybe next week will be better.

  • Someday I am going to write a book about my travels; Working Title; "Have Sermon Will travel." Second Suggested title; "Speed Limits are just suggestions!"
  • Whenever I visit North Florida I always run into someone who knew me when I was a little boy. Oh, the memories!
  • We are less than 7 days away from THE SEASON!
  • I love with my kids visit on the weekend!
  • I find it comforting there will be no traffic in heaven!
  • Early morning road trips allow me to see some awesome sunrises!
  • Something to Chew on; Failure is never final ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church today.
  • Jim's message on the assumptions of Jesus from Matthew 6 was spot on!
  • I find churches have but two options they can "Fish" or they can "Fuss", so glad KCC chooses to Fish!
  • Key thought from today's message; Churches grow systematically and deep when the members serve.
  • Praying for the families of the two police officers who lost their lives in Kissimmee this past weekend.
  • Earth has no sorrow that heaven can't heal.
  • All of this August heat makes me want to take a winter vacation to Vermont later this year!
  • When did the eclipse begin to be called the "great" or "epic" eclipse? We Americans can hype anything.
  • The SEASON is getting close!
  • The students are back!
  • Has it really been 40 years since I was a college freshman?

  • Witnessed another couple leap into married life this weekend; Congratulations Caleb and Elena.
  • Congratulations to my daughter in law, she graduated with a specialist degree in education this past month, so proud of her accomplishments. My son is a lucky man!

  • So thankful for many long time friends, they make the journey lighter because of our shared joy.
  • Something to Chew on; We are what we do repeatedly; Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit. ~ Aristotle

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Wonderful message from John 11, the raising of Lazarus from the dead.
  • Key thought from today's message; God's delays are NOT the same as denial.
  • The raising of Lazarus reminds us that God's people are not immune to tragedy and loss.
  • So good to have our minister back in the pulpit, preach it, Jim!
  • Praying over all educators this morning reminds us of the many people who are making a difference in the world through teaching!
  • Saw an interesting movie this weekend, DUNKIRK, amazing what ordinary people will do in extraordinary times.
  • Once your eyeglasses break, you realize the value of having a backup pair, so wish I had a backup pair of glass tonight!
  • Who came up with the heat index in weather forecasting? As if 95 degrees was not hot enough, we need a "feels like temp"!
  • The first round of students have moved back to JUFL this past weekend - yep Summer is over!
  • I wish churches would stop blaming the culture and society for their woes and start living out the Book of Acts if they did, it would revolutionalize their community.
  • I know it was an exhibition game, but there was a football game on this past week.
  • Oh, by the way, the College Football Preseason Poll came out this week as well. Are you ready for some football?
  • Maybe I will catch a high school football game or two this season as well.
  • Watching a friend travel to Alaska reminds me how grand is this place we call America. God Bless you, Greg and Shannon!
  • Something to Chew on; There is no advantage to hurrying through life. ~ Shikamaru Nara

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church today.
  • Great message on Jesus cleansing the temple. I love when preachers bring something fresh to the text, Thank you, Tom.
  • Here is a question one needs to answer regarding the style of worship; Does the Sunday Worship satisfy self or does it glorify God?
  • JUFL students return in 18 days! I cannot wait to hear about internships and experiences from this past summer.
  • July is over, only 5 months left in the year. I think someone has put 2017 on Fast Forward.
  • Do we even say "Fast Forward" anymore?
  • Pandora's "One Hit Wonder" station has me asking whatever happen to some of the singing groups from the 70's? Gone but not forgotten!
  • Today I read about one of the kids from my former youth ministry days is transitioning out of a 10-year youth ministry into a new role at the church he serves. First I felt old, then I felt proud! Great job John, God is using you in a big way!
  • Question, with all this talk about "Christmas in July", did anyone get a "Christmas in July" bonus? Just wondering.
  • I had a great vacation last week, really feel refreshed. Good Friends, Good Food and now Good Memories!
  • Something to Chew on; Make space in your life for the things that matter, for family and friends, love and generosity, fun and joy. Without this, you will burn out in mid career and wonder where your life went. ~ Jonathan Sacks

  • Key Idea #2, If there is to be a difference in this world it will not be because of our culture, our government or because of any outside force, but true transformation will happen when God's people,  begin to see the value in others. Remember all people matter to God.
  • So blessed by the staff of KCC
  • I am curious, what is the first song you think we will sing in heaven? I am leaning toward the old Hymn, "Holy, Holy, Holy" But it could be Chris Tomlin's "Home".
  • I received a lot of comfort from this blog post last week.
  • Vacationing with some good friends this week. Ministry friends are the best.
  • I really do not understand Christmas in July.
  • In 4 months, White Fudge Covered Oreos will return to the grocery stores, yes it will be the most wonderful time of the year!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Wonderful message on Apologetics from David Peters. Great reminder that we must all defend the faith, yet with gentleness and respect.
  • Baptismal waters stirred once again, this never gets old!
  • Returned to KCC tonight to see the JUFL High School Music Camp RESOUND perform - what a blessing to see such talented teenagers share their gifts.
  • Shout out to our JUFL alumni who served as RESOUND mentors this past week, they all have servant's hearts!
  • One of the most under appreciated attributes of God is His faithfulness to his children. As the book of Lamentations says it so well, Great is His Faithfulness!
  • If you want to take a 2-hour break from reality; go see the movie Wonder Woman,  No bad language, no inappropriate scenes, just good fun.
  • Experienced a very good Mexican restaurant this weekend, very tasty.
  • I believe Humidity is part of the curse of the Fall of Man.
  • This song is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs of worship.
  • Tonight someone asked me "How am I doing?" I told him, "There are good days and there are bad days, but thankfully there are more good days than bad days now" - God has been and continues to be FAITHFUL!
  • Today is National Ice Cream day, it is hard to beat REAL Vanilla ice cream from Florida's favorite grocery store. If you are not sure what store I am talking about the name of the store ends with the letter X!
  • Just in case you are curious.
  • Something to Chew on; The same everlasting Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow, and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. ~ St. Frances de Sales

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Today's message focused on Zaccheus and his actions to seek out Jesus.
  • Key thought #1, Zaccheus did not let anything stop him from seeking Jesus.
  • Key thought #2, Jesus is always willing to stop and offer grace to people who need this amazing gift!
  • One of the reasons I make KCC my "Home Church" is the words of encouragement I receive on a weekly basis!
  • How can summer be half over?
  • Attended the funeral of a faithful minister on Wednesday. Here is a question, are you spending time with the people who will cry at your funeral?
  • I had to smile at today's scripture reading from the one-year Bible. I have to agree with the wise words of Solomon
  • And yes, I found favor in the Lord!
  • Hospice continues to do a wonderful job following up on my life situation.
  • As warm as it has been in July, I am really concerned about August. Better have the A/C unit checked out.
  • You can never have too much ice cream!
  • I am halfway through the book "The Tipping Point" The tipping point is that magic moment when an idea, trend or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips and spreads like wildfire. This book has some very practical insights for ministry and life!
  • Did I mention you can never have too much ice cream?
  • Something to Chew on; You are off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so... get on your way! ~ Dr. Suess, Oh, the Places you'll go!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Another twofer day, preached at Common Ground Christian Church, Tampa this morning and attended Faith and Freedom Rally at Kissimmee Christian Church tonight.
  • Today marked the 160th church I have preached in since I joined the college in 2011. In case you are wondering there are 205 churches in Florida, so I have preached in 75% of our churches.
  • Common Ground must be one of the most diverse congregations in the state. I had a great time preaching today.
  • Key thought from today's message; dispensing grace to a hurting world gives us the opportunity to be God-like in a Graceless Culture.
  • Tonight's Faith and Freedom Rally was both inspiring and heartwarming.
  • Nothing stirs the soul like hearing patriotic songs.
  • Thank you, Jim and Roland, for sharing your thoughts tonight, we truly are blessed to live in America.
  • Spent the week at the North American Christian Convention in Kansas City, so good to reconnect with friends of faith.
  • I was introduced to Ride Sharing this week, what a handy tool for getting around an unfamiliar city!
  • Best message of the week was presented at the Senior's Luncheon. A great challenge for all people of faith.
  • I will be attending the funeral of a faithful preacher of the gospel this Wednesday, he had such an impact on so many young preachers.
  • I hope we are found faithful!
  • Tuesday is the annual hot dog eating contest, how can one man eat so many hot dogs?
  • Did you know this is the last month of the year without football!
  • The year is half over, how are you doing on the new year's resolutions?
  • Something to Chew on; Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith. ~ Ronald Reagan

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Another two-fer weekend, worshiped at Real Life Christian Church, Clermont, Saturday night and then worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church today.
  • Two different churches impacting their communities for Christ in two different ways and Christ was lifted up in both faith communities.
  • The message at Real Life; We cannot coast through our Christian life, God wants us to engage our culture!
  • The message at Kissimmee Christian, our faith in Christ cannot be what others say about Jesus, it is about what we believe about Jesus.
  • Good worship always stirs the soul, my soul was stirred at both places this weekend.
  • So good to be ministered to this week rather than ministering to others, I really needed the break!
  • I wonder how many ministers need a break?
  • I wonder how many ministers are running on empty?
  • I have never met a church that does not want to grow, but I know many churches that do not want to change.
  • Traveling to the North American Christian Convention this week, hoping to connect with many friends from past ministries.
  • Got a message from a former youth group member today about Kathy's influence in their life. Good Stuff! I was so blessed!
  • Every week that passes, gets us closer to the beginning of the college football season.
  • Did you see the Florida Gators are in the college world series?
  • We have 120+ teens visiting JUFL this week, I am praying for a great week and for our admissions team as they tell the students why JUFL is a great place to continue one's education.
  • I miss Oreos dipped in white chocolate, they are only available at Christmas. Life is so unfair!
  • Something to Chew on; Thou has made us for thyself, O Lord and our heart is restless until it finds rest in thee. ~ Augustine

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at Southside Christian Church, Fort Pierce this morning.
  • Today's message focused on the uniqueness of God's word in shaping lives, churches and culture.
  • The transforming power of the word of God is amazing when the Word is read and APPLIED to one's life or situation.
  • The church had a wonderful Father's day breakfast - great time of fellowship!
  • Connected with an alumnus from 1982 - now that is a long walk down memory lane!
  • I hate driving in the rain - today was a real "white knuckle" experience.
  • My dad is having a good day today, so good to talk to him on the phone. With his dementia advancing, I am realizing how special are conversations are on a daily basis!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at Christian Church of Deleon Springs (Deland) this morning on the topic of the Authority of God's Word.
  • The uniqueness of Scripture is seen in the source, purpose, and message of the Bible.
  • In a world that questions all authority, it is comforting to know we can stand on the living word of God.
  • We sang the old hymn, "The Blood will never lose its Power" this morning, this song was sung at my ordination 36 years ago. Whenever I hear that song, I go back to that special day!
  • Who knew Deland has a great Chinese restaurant?
  • This past week my daily Bible reading has taken me through the book of I Kings; it is truly amazing to see the detail by which Solomon put into building the temple.
  • When Savannah visits, all is right in the world!
  • Hearing the news that many of my college classmates are becoming grandparents reminds me time is flying by!
  • BTW is there any greater joy than being a grandparent?
  • Driving through Deland on a Sunday morning is so peaceful.
  • To my many friends, I really appreciate all of you - So Blessed!
  • Why is movie popcorn so expensive?
  • Something to Chew on; I would rather walk in the dark with a friend, than alone in the light. ~ Helen Keller

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at Burnham Christian Church today.
  • Preached on my favorite Biblical topic; Grace.
  • While we all believe and need grace; I wonder if we really understand the full implications of this special gift from God. This song may help.
  • BCC is a very friendly congregation. One sign of a friendly congregation? How long the people stick around after church service is over! The BCC members stick around!
  • The worship was very traditional, however, the people really sang out! They truly were glad to be in the house of the Lord.
  • How can the month of May be over? Seriously, it is almost June!
  • So excited to watch the graduating class of 2017, take their place in ministries around the country. We have students leaving for Indiana, Arizona, and North Carolina as well as several serving in Florida.
  • We are less than 100 days from the 2017 College Football Season.
  • Here is my blog post from 6 years ago that reminds all of why Memorial Day is more than a day for picnics and Beaches.
  • Something to Chew on; Our prayers can go where we cannot... There are no borders, no prison walls, no doors that are closed to us when we pray. ~ Brother Andrew

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • It was a two-fer day as I preached at two churches this morning. First I traveled to Lake City and preached at First Christian Church of L.C. and then I traveled to Macclenny and preached at First Christian Church of Macclenny.
  • Thankfully I was able to use the same message; The Problem with Problems, James 1:2-6
  • Key thought this morning, God gives us two solutions to handling problems is this life. A God who Loves us and a Church family that cares for us.
  • Key thought #2, no matter the problem, you are always a different person after you have tackled the problem. You either become better or bitter!
  • I applaud Doug for filling two pulpits each week! So thankful for leaders who see the value in pulpit sharing.
  • This weekend's travel 454 miles - yep, one tired puppy!
  • Are there any sweeter words than; I AM ON VACATION THIS WEEK!
  • I see a lot of bumper stickers on cars as I travel around the state; strangest ones this week? "I Love Tarantulas" and "Argue Naked" - Seriously, you cannot make this stuff up!
  • I was reading through the book of 1 Kings this week and came upon the incident in chapter 17 where Elijah declares a drought for 3 years, we have gone almost 3 months around here without rain and it is pretty bad, can you imagine 3 years?
  • Does anyone else miss college football?
  • Something to Chew on; I cannot imagine where I would be today were it not for that handful of friends who have given me a heart full of joy. Let's face it, friends make life a lot more fun. ~ Charles Swindoll

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning, a wonderful message regarding the ultimate Mother's Day gift. from Luke 7:11-17
  • Think about verse 13, for just a minute; "His heart went out to her." Jesus was (and is) always about caring for people.
  • Powerful song at the end of the days worship, you can hear it here
  • The Commons on the Florida campus is moving forward. It is going to be an exciting summer.
  • Why is it the TV shows I watch always get canceled?
  • They better not touch college football!
  • Went to see a movie this weekend, it is just wrong that the snacks cost more than the movie ticket. All I got was a coke and some popcorn; when the lady quoted me the price I did a double take.
  • Will it ever rain again?
  • Made a really tough decision this past week, I am at peace with the decision, but it was a tough decision.
  • Once again, I am blessed by having very good friends in my life.
  • Something to Chew on; Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure. ~ Jane Austen

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Great message from John 6, on the feeding of the 5,000.
  • One takeaway from this morning; what kind of church are we to be; A Risk Taker, Care Taker, or Undertaker?
  • Here is a sobering thought what kind of Christian should I be? A Risk Taker, Care Taker, or Undertaker?
  • Jim's illustration about the basket was very timely.
  • My daughter graduated!
  • Two thoughts I have about her graduation; Thrilled for her and no more FASFA!
  • So thankful for the many colleagues at JUFL Thursday, they made sure I was not alone all day, did not get a lot of work done, but I was not alone - THANK YOU!
  • Watching the 40 grads go across the stage Friday evening was bittersweet; they have completed their studies, now they have to go into the world. Goodbye class of 2017,  Now go extend the Kingdom of God among the nations!
  • We had a full house this weekend as all the kids were home for Bethany's graduation, tomorrow is national clean up day, it may take a couple of days to get the house back to normal.
  • Normal; what is normal?
  • I enjoy and need the wisdom of good friends, so glad I have so many to lean on!
  • Something to Chew on; "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition." ~ Steve Jobs

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at FCC Leesburg this morning representing JUFL.
  • Wonderful message by their youth minister from James 1 on the danger of being a double-minded man.
  • We sang my favorite hymn today; Holy, Holy, Holy - I could sing that hymn every week!
  • I am always amazed when I run into alumni at churches that I did not expect to see. Great to see you, Steve!
  • Turnpike Tales #1, as I was driving on the turnpike I saw a car seat on the side of the road, makes you want to know who left it on the roadside & where is the baby?
  • Turnpike Tales #2, why do people think you can make a U-Turn on the turnpike? My life flashed before my eyes not once, but twice.
  • It is Finals week - how can the school year be over?
  • One of the great pleasures of working at JUFL is attending the Senior Recitals at the end of the year, Thank you, Kayla, Karissa and Taylor, your talents and love for the Lord are so evident.
  • Commencement Friday; Whoop, Whoop!
  • This is my 350th Sunday Night Reflection all I can say is wow!
  • Just in case you are curious, here is the link to my first SNR, a lot has changed in my life since February 7, 2010.
  • My family would really appreciate your prayers this week, it will be 1 year Thursday since the unthinkable happened in our lives.
  • Something to Chew on; Jesus never taught his disciples how to preach, only how to pray. ~ Andrew Murray.

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at First Christian Church of Orange Park this morning.
  • Great time of worship Chris, and the team did a wonderful job.
  • To my preacher friends, you know that time "when you feel like you hit it out of the park" That was not the case this morning. More like a sacrifice bunt, however, the people were gracious.
  • Attended a funeral of dear man this past week, Jim was certainly a Gem! So glad I was able to call him a friend.
  • Seeing a few old friends at the funeral reminded me how precious friendships are in the household of faith.
  • Bacculuarte is Tuesday, this graduation stuff is getting real.
  • I lived through Kathy's cancer and now I am watching my dad battle dementia, and I must honestly say, I am looking forward to the Day
  • Rule of the road, when the speed limit is 70 and the state trooper is going 65, it is ok to pass him.
  • When you go to the store to pick up frozen yogurt but accidently pick up real ice cream, what are you to do? You let your diet take a Sabbath!
  • I do not understand road construction. What I do know is everywhere I travel for JUFL there seems to be road construction, maybe I should invest in an asphalt company.
  • Something to Chew on; We are not a product of our circumstances we are a product of our decisions ~ Stephen Covey

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at Fort Caroline Christian Church this morning.
  • This morning's topic, the HOPE of the Resurrection.
  • When life seems hopeless, remember the resurrection; for the resurrection gives everyone hope.
  • Yeah, we did this song this morning. Worship team did a wonderful job!
  • This was only the second time in 6 years I was able to preach on Resurrection Sunday, I really miss preaching on this day!
  • Honestly, I think we should celebrate Christ's resurrection every Sunday.
  • Such a good spirit in worship today.
  • Received word this week a dear saint is in his last days, praying for the family.
  • Watching my dad struggle with his health is really difficult.
  • I wish Kathy was here! She always knew what to say when I was troubled or anxious.
  • We are less than 21 days from graduation. Hey seniors, "Stay Calm"
  • Last week, I was reading the instructions for paying taxes and discovered the IRS cannot accept a single payment of $1,000,000. If paying the IRS $1,000,000 one must pay with two checks! Is this really a problem?
  • So good to see so many good things happening in our churches today.
  • Entertaining a group of alumni at my house tonight; looks like a pizza run is in my future!
  • Something to Chew on; If I am to inherit Eternal Life, I must cultivate a correspondence with the Eternal. ~ Henry Drummond

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at Fort Caroline Christian Church today on the subject of the power of the Cross.
  • We looked at the cross from the viewpoint of the soldiers at the crucifixion, and like many people, they were close to the cross but far from the Christ.
  • Preaching during the passion week is always challenging, many people have read the gospel accounts so often they can fall into the danger of no longer being moved by the message of the cross.
  • Some worship leaders can really fill a room with their voice; Damon is one of those worship leaders!
  • Very emotional weekend for our family, dad is in the hospital, his dementia is getting worse. Dementia is such a dreaded disease. Looking forward to the day when all suffering is removed!
  • If you know a nurse make sure they know how much they are appreciated!
  • Once again we realized the brevity of life as a friend died in a tragic accident Thursday evening. Praying for the Attkisson family.
  • I have said it before but it is worth repeating; Does anyone live up north anymore? The traffic around here is CRAZY!
  • I think preaching in a small church may be one of the most challenging roles for a minister today.
  • Cap and Gowns arrived at JUFL last week; Graduation is less than 28 days away Whoop, Whoop!
  • Something to Chew on; Love always involves responsibility, and love always involves sacrifice. And we do not really love Christ unless we are prepared to face His task and take up His cross ~ William Barclay

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Union Park Christian Church in Orlando today.
  • Great message on the trials of Jesus. When one realizes all Jesus went through on the night before His death, all one can say is "Hallelujah What a Savior!"
  • Over 1/4 of the gospels deal with the passion week of Christ, why do we only talk about it for 3 to 4 weeks at Easter.
  • Very meaningful communion meditation on the subject of the most powerful 10 seconds each Sunday.
  • Hopefully, we will all think of our Lord more than 10 seconds each Sunday.
  • How can it possibly be April?
  • Tomorrow night there will be "One Shining Moment, wonder who will wear the title; national champs.
  • I wonder how different this world would be if we followed Solomon's proverbs?
  • I cannot get this lyric out of my head, "Earth has no sorrow, that heaven can't heal"
  • 11 months
  • For the next two weeks, I will be preaching about the power of the cross. I'm pumped!
  • Something to Chew on; Outside of the cross of Jesus Christ, there is no hope in this world. The cross and the resurrection at the core of the Gospel is the only hope for humanity. ~ Ravi Zacharias

  • Watched a couple of Buzzer Beaters this weekend, I understand why they call it March Madness.
  • I still do not understand the purpose of Daylight Savings Time.
  • Something to Chew on; People underestimate their capacity for change; there is never a right time to do a difficult thing. ~ John Porter
