Sunday Night Reflections

A Few thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • After a six-week absence, it was great to worship with the Kissimmee family.
  • I wrapped up my interim preaching at Citrus Ridge Church last night as I finished the series, "I am dreaming of a Right Christmas."
  • Last night's message, "A Right Response."
  • The key point, the right response to the birth of Christ is worship!
  • Social media is a terrible place for theological debates.
  • Remember, only a unified church can reach a broken world.
  • I am afraid the Fins are headed for another December Swoon.
  • The weather outside is truly FRIGHTFUL!
  • Something to Chew on; The leader's focus it to encourage the many; mentor the few. ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I preached at Citrus Ridge Church this morning. I continued in my series, I'm Dreaming of a RIGHT Christmas.
  • This week's message; "A Right Pace"
  • The key point of today's message is; We are often too busy doing Christmas that we forget to celebrate Christmas.
  • Remember the angel's message, They shall call Him Immanuel, God with us, and that my friend is worth celebrating.
  • Preaching the message of Christmas is second only to preaching about the Ressurection of Jesus.
  • I close out my preaching at Citrus Ridge next Saturday evening with a message titled; "A Right Response"
  • Our first semester is in the books at JUFL. How can 17 weeks go by so fast?
  • If there was ever a year I wanted the College Football season to be over, Last night's bowl game was proof enough that it was not a good season.
  • So thankful for all the well wishes regarding my illness last week.
  • You know you are a loyal Amazon customer when they send you a get-well card!
  • Something to Chew On; Galatians 4:4-5 in the words of the famous theologian, Linus, "That is what Christmas is all about Charlie Brown"

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • No preaching or church visit today, I have been sidelined by an Upper Respiratory Infection.
  • I feel miserable.
  • On top of the Upper Respiratory Junk, I have lost my voice.
  • As a result of the virus, I have lost my voice, and I can barely whisper, others may say that I a blessing, but it is limiting me from talking to Lori today. Not Good!
  • I can text, but it is not the same.
  • The only good thing about this junk is I can watch football today.
  • Last night was our annual Night of Noel at JUFL. A Wonderful program and so good to reconnect with our friends.
  • So thankful for the many volunteers who helped pull off the event.
  • This is finals week at JUFL, should be an exciting week. Said no student ever!
  • I had forgotten how good Campbells' chicken noodle soup tastes.
  • Here is an idea, put cold medicine in Oreos.
  • Something to Chew on; Stay focused instead of getting offended or off track by others. ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I preached at Citrus Ridge Church this morning. I kicked off the Christmas series, "I am dreaming of a RiGHT Christmas"
  • We seldom have a perfect Christmas, but we can always have a right Christmas.
  • A Right Christmas begins with a right focus.
  • I had a great time at the annual Tison Christmas party Saturday.
  • I am so blessed to be a part of a large family.
  • We had 50+ family members attend this year. I am starting to have a hard time remembering all my cousins' names!
  • Thank you, Troy and Nacy for the slide show and for arranging the special guest.
  • Our special guest really made an impact on the little Tisons!
  • This is the last week of instruction at Johnson University Florida, next week is finals. This semester has gone by so fast.
  • I attended the Candlelight Processional at Epcot this last week. The music and message continue to be top-notch.
  • This Saturday is our annual Night of Noel at JUFL. I look forward to meeting some of our partners as we present our program.
  • Homemade Christmas Cookies Rock!
  • By the way, I found White Chocolate Oreos, life is good.
  • Something to Chew on; When it comes to focus remember, learn to say no to the good so you can say yes to the best. ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at Citrus Ridge Church this morning.
  • The message focused on the need to be the People who give others a Second Chance.
  • People of the Second Chance Wait, Restore, and Celebrate when the prodigal comes home.
  • I had a great time in Michigan this week, cool temperatures but a warm reception.
  • I sat next to two worship leaders on my return flight from Michigan. Great conversations about worship and church culture.
  • I believe the best part of thanksgiving is not the food or the football but being with family. This year I was with my new family as I celebrated with Lori, and part of her family. Good Times!
  • Next Saturday is our Tison Christmas Party in Jacksonville, I look forward to seeing mom, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and possible future Tisons! aka boyfriends and girlfriends who are invited as well.
  • Black Friday came and went and I did not visit a single store. Very Good Times!
  • Tuesday is Giving Tuesday and I would ask if you are reading my blog would you give a gift to Johnson University Florida's Giving Tuesday campaign? I have provided a link for your convenience. Give Tuesday If you can give, I would appreciate your support to help our First Generation Students.
  • Can we have a moment of silence for the end of the Regular Season of College Football?
  • Something to Chew on; Do not take the agenda that someone else has mapped out for your life. ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Preached at Citrus Ridge Church this morning. The message focused on the power words have in one's life.
  • Key Point #1, we all have an opportunity to speak the right words to make a difference in someone's life.
  • Key Point #2, The right word does not take special talent or resources, it only takes the willingness to speak into someone's life.
  • Our small group wrapped up our study of the Good and Beautiful Life and now we are taking a break for the holidays.
  • I wrapped up my study on Ecclesiastes Wednesday night, number 1 goal in teaching the class; spelling the word Ecclesiastes correctly! #thankyouautocorrect
  • It should not take 35+ minutes to get to and from work when you only live 6 miles from work, Just saying!
  • Finally, it is Thanksgiving!
  • Missing my better half!
  • Michigan Bound Tueday.
  • Vanderbilt? Really!
  • Only one game left and then the season is over!
  • Only 3 more weeks left in the semester, this semester has flown by!
  • I am excited about Night of Noel this year, we have few special items for our audiences to enjoy.
  • Something to Chew on; Where there is no hope in the future, there is no power in the present. ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I preached at Citrus Ridge Church in Davenport today.
  • The message focused on grace.
  • I have never felt so welcomed as a guest speaker!
  • Following morning worship I headed to Altamonte Springs to officiate at a wedding, Congratulations Zack and Haley, it was a joy to be a part of your special day. Good times!
  • To be honest, it is good to be home tonight! Now for some Oreos and Milk!
  • How can Thanksgiving be only 10 days away? It is time to find my stretchy pants.
  • We will be celebrating Thanksgiving in Michigan this year, I wonder if they have a kid's table?
  • Once again I was reminded of the brevity of life as a former student from my youth ministry days passed away this past week.
  • First, it was Ian, and now Nicole, does anyone else have Hurricane fatigue?
  • Publix Thanksgiving commercials are more heart-wrenching than a Hallmark movie.
  • The Tison family had a big day Saturday, we celebrated David and Savannah's birthdays. It is ALWAYS Good when all my kids are together. Happy Dad!
  • The Fins continue to win!
  • Have the gators turned the corner? I hope so.
  • Something to Chew on; When it comes to focus, you must manage your thought life, and then you can manage your life. ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Jim preached a great message from Nehemiah 1 and 2, his focus was on the need to pray BOLD prayers.
  • Key thought from the message, if you pray a BOLD prayer, you must be ready to move when God answers the BOLD prayer.
  • His final illustration regarding being ready when God answered the prayer was inspiring!
  • The wonderful thing about Bold prayers is we can all pray bold prayers!
  • Received a text message tonight from a church that has called a new minister based on my recommendation.  One of the great joys of my job is connecting ministers with churches so they can continue to extend the Kingdom of God.
  • Lori traveled to Michigan earlier than planned this week to handle some health needs with her family, prayers are appreciated.
  • This week would have been my dad's 85th birthday, he passed a few years back, I would love to have a conversation with him today.
  • Thank you for the many Oreo Location messages I received this past week, still searching in St. Cloud FL.
  • If you know me you know I enjoy football, and this past weekend was a wonderful weekend to watch some good football!
  • Our students return from ICOM today, I can't wait to hear some of their stories of how the convention impacted their lives.
  • Something to Chew on; Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time. ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • We worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Today was Youth Sunday. It was so good to see students serving in worship and greeters. Lance is doing an excellent job training the next generation of Servant Leaders.
  • Lance brought the message this morning challenging us to remove our masks and get real with our relationship with Christ!
  • I recently completed a 9-week study on the book of Psalms. I really enjoyed developing these lessons.
  • I miss teaching the Bible on a weekly basis.
  • My brothers and I celebrated my mom's 84th birthday last Friday. It is always good when we can get together, but we sure miss our dad!
  • A friend of mine has discovered white fudge Oreos in South Carolina, did someone say road trip!
  • We have 2 van loads of students traveling to the International Conference on Missions (ICOM) in Columbus OH this week. This could be a life-changing event for our students.
  • Candy Corn, and Peanut M&M's make for a great trick-or-treat snack.
  • We did not win, nor were we expected to win, but there were a few rays of hope on Saturday for next year.
  • Something to Chew on; When it comes to focusing on what is important remember, "Encourage the many; mentor the few." ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I preached at Southside Christian Church in Fort Pierce this morning.
  • The message focused on Luke 19:10, Jesus defined his mission as seeking and saving the loss.
  • We need to remember our mission is the same of our Lorid's mission.
  • Key Point; The world looks at a person and sees status, works and talent, Jesus looks at people and sees one in need of grace!
  • The church family was very friendly, and gracious with their comments.
  • We had a great time worshiping with the folks at SCC, but after traveling three out of the last four Sundays, it will be good to worship at our home church next Sunday.
  • So thankful our Life group is willing to be flexible in these trying times.
  • Question, if your wife takes you to a Rom Com movie and you enjoy it, does that mean you have to turn in your man card?
  • Fun Movie, Wonderful Company!
  • We got a little taste of a Florida winter this past week. Like all Florida winters, it only lasted two days!
  • We had an opportunity to see the NEWSBOYS in concert Monday evening. We were 2 rows from the stage, I think my ears are still ringing!
  • Something to Chew on; When I focus on what is important to God, I live differently. I invest my time differently, ~ Graig Groeschel.

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I gave a University update at Winter Haven Christian Church's annual Faith Promise this Sunday.
  • It was a joy to connect with many long-time friends. I have known some of them for 40+ years!
  • Special Treat this today, I was able to hear Mike Chambers preach this morning. So blessed to hear him speak on the need for missions. Yep, He unpacked a lot of good stuff this morning.
  • Mission Drift conference is in the books, Doctor Smith and Doctor Johnson worked well together reminding us of the importance of knowing one's mission and sticking to it.
  • Learning about Mission Drift and Keeping from Mission Drift are two different things!
  • Drifting from your mission can be fatal to a church or an institution, the problem for too many is you do not realize you are drifting until it is too late!
  • I am getting a day off tomorrow! What to do? Oh Yeah, WE are going to Disney World!
  • Don't look now, we are only 38 days until Turkey Day!
  • College Football is getting a little crazy right now!
  • Something to Chew On; Focus on your goals, not your fear. ~ Roy Bennett

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning. Jim's message focused on the praying of BOLD PRAYERS
  • Lots of good points, but the takeaway for me was the statement, how we pray, says a lot about what we believe about God.
  • Comparing the amount we spend on social media versus how much time we spend in prayer is an eye-opener!
  • Yeah, it is easy to scroll without ceasing, but do we pray without ceasing?
  • This month is Clergy Appreciation Month, so thankful for the ministers of KCC. As someone who is on the road many Sundays, it is good to have a "Home Church" with such a quality team of ministers!
  • Watching college football games come down to the last drive is very exciting. But how do you expect me to go to sleep when I have such an adrenaline rush?
  • Speaking of College Football, we are now halfway through the 2022 season! NOOOOOOO!
  • 35-minute drives to work are becoming the rule, not the exception! BTW, I live 6 miles from my job.
  • Something to Chew on; To conquer frustration, one must remain intensely focused on the outcome, not the obstacles. ~ T.F. Hodge

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I preached at SonRise Christian Church in Dunnellon this morning.
  • Today's topic dealt with my favorite subject - Grace!
  • Wonderful church family, very friendly. We enjoyed lunch with 11 of their members, It was great to share a meal with the people of SonRise.
  • BTW, SonRise is the correct spelling.
  • Probably one of my favorite parts about traveling for JUFL is sharing a meal with the friends of JUFL.
  • I connected with several friends at the abbreviated SPIRE conference in Orlando last Tueday. It was good to reconnect with ministry colleagues.
  • I am blessed to have many fellow laborers in my life.
  • Take away from SPIRE, Ministry today is more demanding than ever before, thus it is important for ministers to be prepared to meet the new normal, that is not normal by any means!
  • Praying for my friends in SWFL. The devastation is heartbreaking.
  • Coming home from Dunnellon today we ran into a traffic problem I have never experienced before, lanes closed on the turnpike because of flooding.
  • Who decided the gator game should be broadcast on SEC+ this week, this was definitely a minus to me!
  • I bought gas for $2.97 this morning! I was happy with the price until I remembered 2 years ago it was under $2.00!
  • Something to Chew on; When I am focusing on what is important to God, I live differently. I invest my time differently. ~ Craig Groeschel. Wierd: Becasue Normal is not working!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Jim was away but we were encouraged by one of the missions KCC support in India.
  • The message focused on the power of prayer.
  • Key point #1, Only a praying church can defeat the enemy.
  • Key point #2, The power of the early church was the power of prayer.
  • We celebrated the anniversary of our worship minister today, Tony does a wonderful job preparing us to hear the morning message. Congratulations Tony on 10 years of faithful service!
  • Don't look now, but a storm is heading into the Gulf of Mexico, things could get interesting this week.
  • Thanks to construction on a local road, it looks like our Life group is back to Zoom for a few weeks.
  • Watched the Gators Saturday, it is interesting how one recovered onside kick can silence 100,000 voices!
  • There was no moral victory, but we saw some reasons for optimism.
  • Hey, the "Fins" are in first place in their division.
  • The SPIRE Conference is this week, looking forward to connecting with ministry leaders over the next few days.
  • Countdown; 59 days until Thanksgiving Day, 90 days until Christmas.
  • Something to Chew on; Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have 24-hour days. ~ Zig Ziglar

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at First Christian Church, Lake Butler this morning.
  • Shane did a great job dealing with Pharoah's question for Exodus 5:2, Who is the Lord that I should obey him? One day everyone will be able to answer that question.
  • We shared lunch with the church family, good food, and wonderful company.
  • Eating dinner with the preacher's kids was a joy and very interesting.
  • I was able to connect with some people I have not seen in a very long time, I never know who I am going to meet on my travels for JUFL, but it is always good to connect with friends from many years ago.
  • I shared a university update with the congregation and saw one of our alumni ordained into the Christian ministry. A VERY GOOD DAY!
  • One of the inspiring items about Mike's ordination was each of the church's elders prayed a blessing over him as they laid hands on him.
  • Thanks to my daughter, I was able to attend my first game at "The Swamp" Saturday. Wow, that place is loud!
  • This season the Gators are keeping us on the edge of our seats.
  • This weekend proved that Lori is near perfect!
  • If there is completion for the state's worst traffic troubles I-4 and I-75 are tied!
  • The fins are 2 and 0, and looking good. Especially in the 4th quarter.
  • We start using the new software this week, I told them you can not teach an old dog new tricks, this is going to be interesting!
  • Something to Chew on; Smart people focus on the right things ~ Jensen Huang

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Union Park Christian Church this morning.
  • Tom's message came from the book of Joel.
  • The key point from the message is God is interested in restoring ALL people if we will come to him in obedience.
  • Following worship, we had a wonderful lunch with Tom and Marge and a good friend who I have known for 40 years. Good Times!
  • Special treat this morning; I connected with my former Old Testament professor from CFBC. I owe my love for the Old Testament to him! BTW he was also responsible for recruiting me to CFBC, his influence changed my life. Thank you, Doc!

  • Our Life Group resumes this Friday night, looking forward to meeting face to face once again.
  • I still remember where I was on 9/11.
  • Saturday's game did not turn out as I had hoped. There is always next week!
  • Dolphins won today!
  • Is this the year?
  • Question to Ponder; Why do Hotdogs come in a package of 10 and Hotdog Buns come in a package of 8? The world may never know.
  • Something to Chew on; It seems the older you get, the more life comes into focus. ~ John Maxwell

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day!

  • We worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Jim did an excellent job focusing on the "I am's" of Jesus. Today we explored the idea of Jesus saying "I am the Ressurection and the life from John 11.
  • Jim is correct, we all have an appointed time, so be ready!
  • This message should be preached at every believer's funeral.  This is one of the best messages I have heard regarding the resurrection!
  • I had a great time at Christ's Church Mandarin last Wednesday sharing with the group the history of Johnson University Florida.
  • More churches in Florida need to embrace their program when it comes to ministering to seniors.
  • Saturday night I was watching the Florida game and in the closing seconds, Lily decided she needed to go out. So thankful Lori volunteered to take her out so I could see the closing seconds! What a wonderful wife!
  • BTW, it was an excellent finish!
  • Dinner with some good friends Friday night, it is always a good time when I connect with Dave and Linda.
  • I love when the kids visit.
  • It has been 3 weeks since I have had a soda, and I have not missed it!
  • So tomorrow is the unofficial end of summer, the meteorologist is predicting a high of 94 degrees tomorrow. I guess Florida does not recognize the unofficial end of summer!
  • I could blog more, but there is another game tonight.
  • Something to Chew on; Our thoughts create our reality - where we put our focus is the direction we tend to go. ~ Peter McWilliams

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Jim continued his series, "I AM", a great message focusing on Christ as the good shepherd.
  • It is comforting to know Jesus knows his sheep and we (his sheep) know his voice!
  • It is not exclusive to say Jesus is the only way to salvation, it is reassuring to know there is a sure path to salvation.
  • Attended the funeral of a long-time minister Saturday, he never led a large church but he loved people and loved introducing people to his savior. Well done Mark!
  • A Mariachi Band, Chips and Salsa, and great Mexican food, just an average night with our life group!
  • The first week of classes is in the books for JUFL students, now the fun starts!
  • Speaking at a large senior's group this week, yep it is the circle of life, 30 years ago I was speaking to student ministry events, and now speaking at senior citizen events.
  • College Football returns this week. Yes, it is the most wonderful time of the year!
  • With college football starting this week, white chocolate Oreos cannot be too far away.
  • Who knew there was pumpkin spice dog food?
  • It is August and I am already tired of the political ads.
  • Something to Chew on; The Game has its ups and downs, but you can never lose focus on your individual goals and you can't let yourself be beaten because of a lack of effort. ~ Michael Jordan

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church today.
  • Great message on Jesus as the Light of the World.
  • Key thought this morning, We should all let our lights shine in this dark world.
  • I was reminded again that without Jesus this is a dark world.
  • Just a reminder we are called to weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice, Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of sorrow lately. Come quickly, Lord Jesus.
  • Attended a funeral of a "Classy Lady" Thursday evening in Clearwater.
  • Through technology, she was able to sing at her funeral, beautiful songs, and a beautiful lady.
  • Our students have returned from summer break and classes begin tomorrow. I cannot wait to hear about their summer internships.
  • Our freshman class has arrived as well, the class of 2026, and they look so young! I probably look so old to them as well!
  • I watched a 3-on-3 basketball tournament today, football can not get here soon enough!
  • We made a quick visit to Disney Springs yesterday, and the heat index was 109,  So thankful for A/C.

  • This morning, I preached at New Hope Christian Church in Nokomis (Near Sarasota).
  •  Great group of people, and very encouraging.
  • The message focused on the role we play in helping people find Jesus.
  • I visited New Hope 9 years ago and I was amazed at the changes the church has made over the years. So good to see what God's people can do when they diligently seek Him.
  • We drove back home using state roads and avoided interstates, such a nice, peaceful ride home!
  • Today was the first time Lori heard me preach live. She can't change her mind now!
  • Football is back, at least preseason. It is impressive to see the difference between the first-string players and those trying to make the team.
  • The first round of students moved back on campus this past Friday at JUFL, and it will not be long before everyone is back on campus.
  • Praying for a dear friend who was in a bicycle accident this week. I am hoping the recovery will go smoothly for her.

  • A week from tomorrow it will be August 1st. 7 months down 5 to go, and time is slippin' away.
  • We had the opportunity to see Savannah perform this weekend sing music from Encanto.  Encanto may become my favorite  Disney Movie. With or without Bruno!
  • If you are looking for a heartwarming movie, check out Jerry and Marge go Large. BTW it is not a Hallmark Movie.
  • How can a six-inch sub, a bag of chips, and a  medium drink cost over $9 today?
  • Yes, there are four traditional seasons, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. But I prefer the four seasons of the College Football Season, White Chocolate Oreos Season, College Basketball Season, and just too hot to be outside season! This summer has been a scorcher!
  • Something to Chew on; One thing I do; forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. ~ Paul the Apostle.

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • The message text was Jeremiah 32:38 - 40 and focused on having a heart of Christ.
  • Jim asked us a penetrating question; What would happen if you were Jesus for a day! How would it impact your relationships, your work, your attitude, and how you deal with traffic!
  • I am participating in a funeral of a good friend tomorrow. It is an honor to share in this man's memorial.
  • I was reading a blog post this week, and the writer asked us to name two ministers who made a difference in our life. Can you name two ministers who made a difference in your life? I can; Fred and Wayne!
  • I have a wonderful Life Group; we have shared some losses and some victories over the years and I am glad I am on the journey of faith with this group of believers.
  • To all my teacher friends; August 3rd is WAY too early for you to start another school year. Try to enjoy your last few days of summer.
  • Lori returns on Thursday. I am hoping for no airplane delays!
  • I look at my weekly calendar and see new software training for four of the next five days. Yikes
  • Speaking of calendars; Wednesday has been designated as "Clean the house before the wife returns" day.
  • I found out tonight I am going to be an uncle again! Good Stuff.
  • Something to Chew on; When you view your world with an attitude of gratitude, you are training yourself to focus on the good in life. ~ Paul Meyer

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.

  • I want to encourage you to reread Job 29 and seek to have the kind of influence Job had on his family and his community.
  • It is time for men to return to their biblical mandate of leading their families and being men of character in the workplace!
  • If we follow the mandate, the world will notice!

  • Once again I was energized by practicing the gift of pastoral care this past week.
  • Lori will be home in 600 hours!

Here is a reminder for each of us to focus on as we walk the cancer path; Cancer is so limited, it cannot corrode faith, shatter hope, kill friendships, cripple love, destroy peace, silence courage, or conquer the spirit. Know this, in the end, cancer will be defeated. Revelation 21:3-4
