Sunday Night Reflections

Two thoughts after a troubling week.

The damage from Hurricane Helene has been devastating. There has been wide spread destruction in FL, GA, TN, SC, and NC. As I watched the news I could only think it will take months and maybe years for people to get their lives back together. As I write my blog tonight, I could only think of two thoughts that ran through my mind this weekend.

First, seeing the devastation I coule not help but think about the fragility of life, last week we were talking about a Cat 1 hurricane and in less than 24 hours the intensity of the storm became a Cat 4. As a result, there was strong wind, rain which led to flooding, tornados, washed out roads, loss of lives, and city streets suddenly becoming waterways. Life changes quickly. I have friends who have lost homes, churches have lost their buildings and many have experienced property damage.Since life is so fragile we must remember to to seek God daily, for he is our refuge and our help in times of trouble.

Second, now is the time for the church to "be the church"by serving those who have experienced loss. This can be done in a number of ways; sharing resources, donating items, praying, listening to a neighbor who is going through a very difficult time, and helping neighbors clean up their property. In a country divided down political lines, Church this is our time to shine.

Tonight, it is not about Oreos or college football or complaining about traffic.  Tonight is about praying, serving ,and asking others, "How can I help you?"

Something to Chew on; Guard My life and rescue me, do not let me be put to shame. For I take refuge in you. ~ Psalm 25:20

SundayNight Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I was not able to attend churcht his morning as I was on a plane to Knoxville for our annual Advancement Retreat.

  • Jim's announcement and the congregation's response is a model for how churches should handle ministry transitions.
  • So thankful for the godly leadership demonstrated by our Elders and Staff this past week.
  • After hearing the announcement all I could think was, God Got This!'
  • BTW walking the halls of JUFL is becoming very difficult.
  • TSA Precheck - Don't leave home without it.
  • College football begins in 80 days!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
  • We worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
  • Jim's message focused on the importance of humility.
  • In a world seeking pride, humility is the key to a relationship with God.
  • It was great to see our student ministry "send off" our high school seniors who will be heading to college in the next few weeks.
  • We are blessed to have Lance and his team leading the next generation of Christ followers.
  • In preparation for our upcoming Advancement Retreat, I am reading Canoeing the Mountains by Tod Bolsinger. If you are a leader, this book will rock your world.
  • Since the announcement of JUFL closing, I have watched people go through various stages of grief; Shock, Disbelief, Anger, Bargaining, and finally Acceptance.
  • While it is not easy, we all have to come to Acceptance.
  • This is how I have come to accept the closing of JUFL, I think about all the graduates we have sent out, all the messages the alumni have delivered, all the churches that have been planted by our alumni, all the kids that have been impacted by alumni who led student ministries, all the worship and praise our alumni have led, and so much more. This I know, heaven is fuller because of the work of CFBC/FCC/JUFL.
  • We were and are blessed!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I preached at First Christian Church Sun City Center this morning on the subject of worry.
  • The key point regarding worry is that worry is as bad as swearing, In Swearing we take God's name in vain, and Worry takes God's promises in vain.
  • Busy weekend, an Open House, a birthday party, a commencement ceremony, and a preaching event. Wow, I will need to go to work to recover from the weekend.
  • Connected with several alumni this weekend, so good to see so many old friends.
  • The last commencement at JUFL was bittersweet, thankful for the graduates receiving their diplomas, but it was sad to know this is the last graduation from JUFL.
  • It is always fun to watch proud parents when their child receives their diplomas. Good Times!
