Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • I preached at Winter Haven Christian Church this morning.
  • The focus of the message centered around the topic of being a Grace Dispenser in a Grace Consuming World.
  • The church family at WHCC is an encouraging congregation.
  • I should not be surprised, their senior minister, Preacher Jim is a fine example of an encourager.
  • For my preacher friends, "What are you modeling for your congregation?"
  • 2023 wrap-up; I preached 26 times in churches around the state. I do not know the miles traveled but it is good to take a little rest in January and worship at my home church, Kissimmee Christian Church.
  • Staying up until midnight tonight is overrated. At my age, I need my beauty sleep!
  • This week I discovered a couple of ministers in Florida passed away, praying for the churches they led and hoping they can find a new preacher soon.
  • 2023 has been a year of surprises, both pleasant and unpleasant.
  • Not sure about what 2024 holds but I know who is in control and I will trust Him!
  • Something to Chew on; We all get the same 365 days. The only difference is what we do with them. ~ Hillary DePiano

  • JUFL has only one semester left. The closure is becoming real!
  • So many memories, so many opportunities, and so many friendships! May the Zeal never cease!

  • Key Point this morning; At Christmas, God did not give us what we wanted, God gave us what we needed - Salvation.
  • The Liberty Voices reminds us music is the language of the heart.
  • I have noticed during this time of year people are more generous and more gracious except when you are looking for a parking space and then it is time for the Road Warrior!
  • I celebrate a milestone birthday today, yep, 65. Let the senior citizen discounts begin!
  • When you are serenaded by friends, kids, and grandkids for your birthday, you know it is a good day.
  • The SEC college football schedule was posted this week, there are going to be some great games coming next Fall.
  • Our Christmas Tree is up and only 1 bulb was burnt out, A Christmas Miracle!

  • This was probably the most theological sermon I have preached in a long time.
  • Tonight we were able to celebrate the sounds of the season by hearing the Christmas account in 5 different language groups. Thank you Tony for your creativity and commitment to excellence in worship!
  • When you see a 95-year-old woman serving as a greeter you have to ask yourself what is keeping me from serving? Thank you Norma for your fine example tonight.
  • Another Night of Noel is finished, Thank you Dirk and Ruth for your leadership in this ministry. We had 700 in attendance! It was a wonderful night!
  • The college football season is over, not one of our better years.

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Thankfulness comes when we take inventory of all we have and realize God has blessed all of us.
  • My prayer journal is a constant reminder God is involved in our lives.
  • I am not a pessimist, but it will be a Christmas Miracle if the boys from Gainesville play in a bowl game.
  • 6:15 and it is already dark. I enjoyed the extra hour of sleep last night, but it sure seems late right now.
  • My prayer for the last few months has been very simple; Dear God, Make it abundantly clear!

  • I preached at First Christian Church of Bartow this morning on my favorite subject; GRACE!
  • FCC Bartow is a small church, but they have a wonderful spirit.
  • I met a family today who attended the same church I attended as a teenager. It truly is a small world when it comes to people in the Christian Church.
  • The trustees of Johnson University have chosen Dr. Daniel Overdorf as the University's eighth president. I regret I will not be able to serve with him. He is a godly leader and a very gracious man.
  • Opportunities are sometimes disguised as challenges.
  • Thanksgiving is less than 5 weeks away.
  • Do you call it "Staffing" or "Dressing?"
  • With Amazon and Online shopping, does anyone participate in Black Friday anymore?
  • I am currently reading "The 16 Undeniable Laws of  Communication" by John Maxwell. While much of the information is familiar, it is a good book to have all the "Laws" in one place.

  • With the changing landscape of our Christian Colleges, we must ask ourselves who will train the next generation of preachers?
  • Great time in Michigan last week, visiting family and hoping to experience a little bit of a Michigan Fall. We did both, Family time was great and Fall was well, all I can say is it was cold, wet, and gray.

  • This year is drawing to a close too quickly.
  • A bridge opens and there is no relief in traffic, welcome to St. Cloud.

  • I continue to be humbled by the generosity of people who are mature in the Faith.
  • As I reflect on 12+ years of working at Johnson U, I find the greatest joy is to be with people who practice generosity.
  • BTW, generosity has nothing to do with the amount, generosity does not come from the balance in the bank account but from the heart of the generous.
  • Watching friends battle cancer brings up some painful memories.
  • Question to ponder; Is it Fall or is it Autumn?
  • Something to Chew On; My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure. ~ Abraham Lincoln

  • Now the Bad. By now many of you have heard Johnson University Florida will be closing its doors in May of 2024. So sad to see my alma mater close.
  • Back to the Good. While many are saddened at JUFL's closing. We can rejoice in the number of alumni who have preached sermons, led student ministries, overseen worship services, operated non-profit organizations, Led VBS programs, visited the mission fields around the world, and helped churches grow stronger. Yes JUFL made and will CONTINUE to make a difference long after the campus is closed. We made a mark the world will never erase.
  • Back to the Bad. Just like the loss of a loved one, we will grieve the loss of our alma mater. I personally know the 5 stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. The stages are not steps, but different stages. Some of you may be at stage 2 right now, others are at stage 4, but whatever stage you are in remember your grief is as unique as you are. One day we will all arrive at stage 5.
  • Back to the Good. We are planning one last gathering in April of 2024, I hope you will be a part of this Special Day as we remember the Special College that has a Special Place in our hearts.
  • Finally please remember in prayer the Faculty, Staff, and Students as we navigate the upcoming academic year. I am not going to kid you, it will be difficult. There will be job searches, new homes, tough goodbyes, and also unexpected trials. Yet I know God is faithful.
  • Something to Chew on; May the Zeal never cease!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • It was a two-fer Sunday. This morning I preached at Southside Christian Church in Fort Pierce, this evening we were blessed to attend the Liberty Voices in concert at Kissimmee Christian Church.
  • So good to catch up with LOOOOONG-time friends tonight, Chuck and Nancy, it was good to see you guys.
  • The morning message focused on the Power of God; God has the power to handle our difficulties, orchestrate our redemption and provide for our eternity.
  • I have to admit patriotic music stirs my soul! Thank you, Dirk and Liberty Voices.
  • I could listen to their rendition of the Battle Hymn of the Republic every day!
  • Another preacher received his heavenly reward this week. I have known Larry since I was in High School. This week he heard Jesus say, "Well Done, Good and Faithful servant!"
  • I first met Larry when he was a camp counselor at North Florida camp, back when senior ministers worked a week of camp.
  • Six months of 2023 are now history, I wonder what the next six months will bring?
  • We are only 55 days until the college football season begins! Get your pom-poms ready!
  • Is it too early to be making Thanksgiving Dinner plans?

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • We worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.

  • After spending a few weeks away from KCC it was good to worship with the church family today.
  • We spent the last two weeks on the Knoxville campus helping our colleagues celebrate "Renew in the Smokies."
  • We had a wonderful time, but it is good to be back home.
  • Welcome back Humidity! UGH!
  • Two of my good friends are dealing with health issues. So thankful they are getting the help they need to overcome their issues.

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • Today is a travel day for us as we are headed to Knoxville for two weeks as we serve at Senior Saints/ReNew in the Smokies.
  • Sitting at the airport playing the game; "Guess who visited Disney this week", Hint; the little girls wearing their "Minnie" dresses and carrying their Disney stuffed animals are sure winners!
  • We flew to Knoxville on a low-cost airline, it was so low cost, we were required to distribute peanuts to our flight attendants.
  • I continue to marvel at the generosity of individuals who catch a vision for ministry.
  • My office is getting a facelift this week while I am away, I can't wait to see the new look!
  • It has been 2 weeks since graduation at JUFL and the campus is a lonely place. Hey students, we miss you!
  • I have read many of John Maxwell's books on leadership, however, Leadershift, Eleven Essential Changes Every Leader Must Embrace is one of his best.
  • For months I have harped about the traffic in my community, I have now decided to embrace the traffic and use the time to listen to audiobooks. Last week I was able to listen to Tolstoy's War and Peace in 3 days. 😂😡😏
  • Sometimes, you just have to go to Dairy Queen!
  • Something to Chew on; Change or Die. ~ Thomas Edgley, quoted from Maxwell's book "Eleven Essential Changes"

  • I believe nurses are God's secret agents. If you know a nurse NEVER take them for granted.

  • I am so tired I need to go back to work to get some rest.
  • My dog sitter is moving, we AND Lily are going to miss her in a big way!

  • So proud of my kids!

  • It was Two-fer Sunday today as we worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning and then traveled to Poinciana Christian Church this evening to hear the JUFL Choir and Choral Society.
  • Jim's message from Hebrews 10 regarding instant access was inspiring. To think that we no longer need the blood of animals to roll back our sins nor do we wait for a high priest to intercede for us is a great comfort.
  • I am going to do "a deep dive" into the book of Hebrews this summer. I am looking forward to the study.
  • We are blessed to have Dirk and Ruth lead the choir and choral society. None better!
  • Another Imagine Banquet is in the books, thanks to our generous friends we were able to add more scholarship funds for our students.
  • Great dinner with our Life Group Friday night. We are taking a 2-month hiatus before we resume in July.
  • Well, this is it, graduation at JUFL is Friday. Another 34 alumni will be added to our number.
  • Do you remember your college graduation?
  • Another friend of mine has lost her battle with cancer this week. I am so glad there will be a day when ALL our tears will be wiped away.
  • Watching the NFL draft is a reminder 2023 Football season is getting closer.
  • The traffic in Kissimmee is bad enough to make a preacher curse!
  • Something to Chew on; Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power. ~ Abraham Lincoln

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • We worshiped at Citrus Ridge Church this morning.
  • So good to reconnect with good friends. The church family at Citrus Ridge are some of the most genuine people I have met in my many travels around Florida.
  • Today's message focused on the trials of our Lord experienced prior to His crucifixion.
  • This morning's key point is that the trials of Jesus remind us evil will do whatever it takes to push its agenda.
  • I miss preaching during this time of year.
  • After 5 straight Sundays representing JUFL in churches around Florida, I get to worship at Kissimmee next week, I am looking forward to being with my church family on Resurrection Sunday!
  • I represented JUFL at a funeral of a former trustee of Florida Christian College Saturday. Aubrey served as a trustee at a critical time in the college's history. So thankful for his wisdom and leadership.
  • Saturday night's buzzer-beater was one for the ages!
  • Who do you have for the "One Shining Moment"?
  • We are less than 5 weeks away from the end of another school year at JUFL. Hey students, remember to finish strong!

Sunday Night Reflections

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...

  • We worshiped at Christ's Church of Marion County this morning.
  • Ray did an excellent job preaching on the subject of "passing the baton" from 1 and 2 Timothy.
  • His message should be preached in pulpits throughout Florida.
  • Pointed Question; is your church preparing the pass the baton to the next generation?
  • Passing the baton is not an option, it is mandatory if our congregations are to survive.
  • We had a great time sharing an update with the congregation. CCMC is a wonderful fellowship.
  • Cancer has once again reminded us this is a fallen world filled with pain and suffering, but as Jeremy Camp sings, There will be a day!
  • Prayers for Jeff and his family.
