Sunday Night Reflections
A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Worshiped at River Run Christian Church, Melbourne this morning. The church has such a wonderful spirit.
- It is true the church takes on the personality of the senior minister. Dan has done a wonderful job encouraging the church family in Melbourne.

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Worshiped at Kissimmee Christian Church today, great message on the life and commitment of Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus.
- Key take away from the message; Joseph was a "Just" man. When a man is just, righteous and holy he will make wise decisions.
- We cannot underestimate the role the father plays in shaping a family, when will the secular society learn this lesson?
- Invitation time was powerful as well.
- I miss preaching at this time of the year.
- Friday night's "Night of Noel" at JUFL was a wonderful experience. So many gracious comments shared by the audience - Night of Noel has to be my favorite event at JUFL.
- Tonight's Candlelight Processional at Epcot was fantastic, Robby Benson's narration was spot on!
- I have said it before and I will say it again, I am amazed at the generosity of God's people.
- Finals week at JUFL, one semester down one semester left for the 2016-2017 academic year, time is flying by!

Sunday Night Reflecitons
A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Wonderful day worshiping at Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
- Tom brought a great message on the power of God to handle whatever comes your way.
- You can tell he loves God and His church.
- It was a welcome relief this morning to wake up and simply "go to church" rather than travel someplace for a church service.
- I still woke up at 5:30 today, this is a habit I would like to break!
- 39 Johnson University Florida students attended the International Conference on Missions this weekend. Can't wait to hear the stories!
- If you have a high school student thinking about missions as a calling, you have to visit JUFL, our intercultural studies is top notch! Trust me when I say it is a worth a visit to the campus - when you arrive ask for Kendi.
- If I had it to do over again, I would spend more time working in the area of leadership development in the local church, John was right, EVERYTHING RISES and FALLS on LEADERSHIP.
- This Thursday is my favorite holiday, I am going to try to enjoy it even though I am missing a very special part of life. Don't say this very often, but pray for me this week!
- Now that the sun is setting around 6:00 pm my home seems more lonely in the evenings.
- Did you see Oreo has a new cookie?
- Want to know why college football is so much fun to watch, just look at the last 3 seconds of the gators/tigers game yesterday.
- Do stores really need to be open on Thursday, I mean can't we wait to be rude, pushy, angry, overspend, argue over parking spaces and just be impatient until Black Friday?
- Something to Chew on; Happiness is not the absence of problems, it is the ability to deal with them. ~ Steve Maraboli

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Worshiped at Vero Christian Church today, attending their annual mission emphasis weekend.
- Great message from one of my good friends in life and in ministry.
- Two words I have not heard in a sermon in a long time; Apologetic and Hermeneutic, Preach it Steve
- I love attending Vero Christian's missions weekend, the church family is genuinely excited about world wide missions.
- Following my trip to Vero Beach, I had a great time at my granddaughter's 4th birthday.
- I have to be honest, I do not a lot of experience shopping for 4 year olds! So glad my daughter was my shopper!
- Realizing how much Kathy loved Savannah's birthday parties brought on another grief burst - I hate those moments!
- Today, the school provided car crossed over 100,000 miles - Oh the places I have been.
- One more preaching trip this calendar year and then I get to rest!
- One of the great things about traveling for the University is I get to see other mission reps on a semi-regular basis. We have a mutual calling and a mutual friendship that others simply do not understand.
- I do not know about you but I am finding the lack of political ads on TV this week refreshing.
- How can there be only 3 more weeks left in the college football season!
- Don't look now, but the dolphins are making some noise - Hey Fins, please do not break my heart!
- I am so proud of my kids.
- Something to Chew on; You may delay, but time will not. ~ Benjamin Franklin

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- After a very busy Summer and Fall traveling for JUFL, I was able to return to Kissimmee Christian Church this morning.
- So good to worship at my home church.
- If you are not connected to a local church you do not know what you are missing.
- Jim reminded us once again the church must be on the forefront of changing our nation.
- The invitation hymn was one of the songs played at Kathy's Celebration of Life service, I may never be able to sing that song again.
- These verses of scripture should give us comfort in the coming days.
- Great day at Roundup yesterday, so thankful for the many faculty, staff and students who stepped up to make the day a success.
- I am always amazed at the generous spirit displayed by God's people.
- I could listen the faculty string band everyday.
- Overheard at Roundup; "There are some exciting things happening at Johnson University"
- So good to talk to several alumni yesterday.
- I have to admit getting an extra hour of sleep Saturday night was an extra blessing.
- Rushed home following Roundup to watch the Gators, the way they played there was no need to hurry home - Bad Loss!
- Can't believe it has been 6 months since I said goodbye to my best friend.
- Something to Chew on; I love those random memories that make me smile no matter what is going on in my life right now! ~ Anonymous

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Preached at First Christian Church of Orange Park this morning.
- One of the most passionate churches I have visited in a log time!
- From today's message; Wisdom is seeing Life through God's point of view. It is for that reason Solomon said wisdom is supreme and better than gold or silver.
- From there I traveled to Ocala to speak at Christ's Church of Marion County for their Joy Night.
- All in all I traveled 395 miles this weekend - I am tired.
- I am so glad I am involved in a college whose purpose it to extend the Kingdom of God among the nations.
- After traveling all summer and most of the Fall, I get to attend my church next Sunday, looking forward to hearing a good message from my minster.
- Before my traveling weekend, I spent 3 days in Tennessee planning out the University's strategy for advancing JUFL forward over the next 12 months. Pretty exciting!
- Saturday I visited the cemetery; it was very sobering to see the headstone with Kathy's name on it. I did not like being there!
- Oh to have 1 more day!
- I was visited by the OREO fairy this past week, always a pleasant surprise.
- The snowbirds are back, normally takes me about an 1 1/2 hours to travel from Ocala to Kissimmee, tonight's trip took 2 hours, where do all these people come from?
- Looks like the college football season is really getting excited.
- I thought about dressing up as a presidential candidate for Halloween tomorrow night, but that may be too scary for young children (and their parents!)
- Three things I am getting pretty good at cooking; Pork Chops, Chicken and Salmon.
- November! What happened to October?
- Something to Chew on; No matter how busy you are, you must take time to make the other person feel important. ~ Mary Kay Ash

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Preached at Sonshine Christian Home in Holiday today.
- What a wonderful group of people, so gracious and so generous with their praise.
- I hope I will have that same spirit when I am in my golden years!
- One thought from today's message; The world drinks to forget their pain, fear and regrets; but every Sunday the believer drinks to remember His Sacrifice and Love as we gather around the Lord's Supper.
- Friday night I attended a night of worship at River Run Brevard, a great evening designed to Glorify God.
- If your church does not have a night of worship from time to time you should consider it as it can be refreshing to your soul.
- Spent tonight visiting with some long time friends, many of whom have walked the same journey I am now walking. So Blessed!
- I have tried to explain it but I just cannot explain "Grief Bursts"
- The Holidays are coming, not really excited about the next 60 days.
- Even though the Gators were not playing there was still some great games on College football yesterday. I can't believe the season is half over.
- I would like to buy some Oreo's, but being the only one in the house, it could really be a disaster, they are so addicting.
- Something to Chew on; You don't stop laughing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop laughing. ~ George Bernard Shaw

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Preached at Southwest Christian Church, Ocala this morning.
- I visited the church in October of 2013, at that time they were running about 65 in attendance, today they are averaging 170 in attendance. I believe this church is turning around!
- So good to see a church turning around. You could tell the people were excited about what was happening in their church.
- Attended a grief retreat this past weekend, was truly an inspiring time. #1 takeaway I am not alone in this grief journey!
- Jonathan did a wonderful job focusing on the missing peace of grief.
- The worship was moving as well. So thankful for the leaders of the retreat, they did a wonderful job!
- This song continues to speak to me.
- Wednesday I had lunch with a member of my second youth group. How can SHE have an 18 year old daughter?
- It is so good to see the kids you invested in turn out so well! One of the great blessings of ministry!

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Preached at Ocala Christian Church this morning. Filled in for an ailing preacher, hoping he feels better soon.
- Ocala Christian Church has to be one of the most gracious churches in Florida. So many people welcomed me and expressed appreciation for providing the morning message.
- Preached from James 1 this morning; "Consider it pure joy whenever you face many trials" This is difficult!
- Here is the truth, I face trials you face trials... All God's Children Face Trials!
- Just when you thought the political season had hit an all time low, we now have a new low!
- So glad our hope is not in a political season, but in the Lord.
- Thinking about a minister friend who I am sure is facing a very bad day, hang in there Mike and Kristi, you guys have been a ray of hope for me in a very dark time.
- Another ministry friend began a new ministry today, I hope it is a fruitful ministry.
- They tell me it will get better, but sometimes it is just overwhelming.
- Looks like we dodged a massive storm this week, for a while it was looking pretty ominous.
- MVP this week? The men and women who got the power turned back on after the storm! THANK YOU!
- The U discovered the PAT is not automatic, that is why college football is so exciting.
- Can we wait a little while longer before we see the Christmas commercials on TV?
- In light of tonight's debate, I have never been happier there is a football game on TV tonight!
- Something to Chew on; Every challenge, every adversity; contains within it the seeds of opportunity and growth. ~ Roy Bennett

- Wonderful time with my family enjoying a mini vacation thanks to the generosity of some friends.
- So proud of my kids, Kathy did a wonderful job in the parenting skills!
- Grief Bursts are painful.
- Receiving direct mail campaign about funeral expenses is so insensitive, surly there is a better way to get your message out!
- A hurricane is upon us again and the weather folks are talking about the cone of uncertainty, you want a cone of uncertainty try living with grief!
- I am amazed at the work the "Make a Wish Foundation" does with it partnership with Disney.
- I cannot imagine the pain the parents feel when their children are faced with a crippling and often fatal disease. Thank you Make a Wish!
- Over the past 3 days I have walked 38,600 steps and I am feeling it tonight!
- Best part of the family vacation having the kids with me, second best part; hot tub in the evening!
- Only 5 more speaking engagements remaining in 2016.
- College Football - nothing like it; every game and every play matters, just ask Georgia or Tennessee.

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Finished preaching at Fort Caroline Christian Church this morning.
- During my 8 weeks, I witnessed 3 baptisms and one transfer, God is doing some things at FCCC.
- Today's topic "How to have a genuine faith" from the book of James.
- Faith goes beyond head knowledge, there must be a matter of the heart that moves one to action.
- Too many people know about faith, but few walk by faith! THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!
- The people of FCCC are so gracious. I will miss this group of people, praying they find the right man to lead them to the next level.
- Wonderful week of Missions Emphasis at JUFL, many seeds planted, now we get to see what God does next.
- Attended a wonderful gathering at Mandarin Church of Christ in Jacksonville Saturday evening, it was so exciting to hear and see them prepare for a mission trip to Jamaica.
- Love hanging out with my small group, doing life together.
- Did you know there are 90 days until Christmas?
- Hey Gators you gotta play 4 quarters!

Sunday Night Reflections
A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Preached on the topic of the danger of favoritism from the book of James this morning at Fort Caroline Christian Church.
- I was able to stir the waters in the church's baptistery today, this never gets old!
- Why is it we are so quick to judge the motives and/or feelings of others by making a surface observation?
- Are you keeping the Royal Law of Scripture?
- I enjoy the worship at FCCC, they have a great blend, but more than a blend, they have a heart for worship as well.
- Traveling to Fort Caroline on Sunday mornings gives me plenty of time to think, sometimes that is a good think and sometimes it is not!
- This week is Missions Emphasis week at Johnson University Florida, weeks like this remind me we are different than other colleges - we are about extending the Kingdom of God.
- I wonder how peaceful presidential elections were before the invention of TV?
- Interesting stat today regarding NFL teams and making the playoffs; Teams that start out 0-2 have a 12% chance of making it to the playoffs, looks like it is wait until next year for my team in South Florida.
- I do not know what is going on, but over the last 6 weeks God has placed 3 men in my life whose spouses have passed away in 2016.
- I wish I would have had this book in my library 15 years ago.
- Something to Chew on; God does not love us because we are valuable, we are valuable because God loves us!

Sunday Night Reflections
A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Continued my series from the book of James this morning at Fort Caroline Christian Church.
- Today's topic; Temptation
- From today's message; every time you defeat a temptation you become more like Jesus.
- Temptation is both personal and universal, but we do have the ability to conquer temptation, see this verse.
- I heard one of the most powerful communion meditations this morning from a respected senior saint. His simple message brought us to the Lord's Supper with eloquence and sincerity.
- By the time Monday comes to a close I will have spoken 3 times in 5 days, that is a lot of talking and a lot of traveling!
- It is hard to believe it has been 15 years since 9/11.
- 3 weeks ago I met a couple who were celebrating 70 years of marriage, today I learned the bride passed away this weekend. Praying for her husband; What a witness of faithfulness!
- I heard this evening another preacher friend will be leaving his church soon, not his choice - ministry is tough, I hope you are praying for your minister.
- Is it me, or are we jumping in on the pumpkin spice thing a little early this year?
- Savannah and I had a Papa and Savannah moment yesterday at Disney, she really lights up my life.
- One of the most difficult things about Kathy's passing is I have any one to talk to about a variety of things, she really had great intuition about stuff! Miss her!
- I was doing pretty good with the home cooking until Wednesday night, good thing there is a Wendy's close by!
- One day I am going to write a book about all the things I have seen in the churches I have visited.
- Something to Chew on; Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him. ~ Lamentations 3:22-24

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Preached at Fort Caroline Christian Church again today.
- Today's message focused on the importance of godly decisions.
- The choices we make truly impact our faith and our witness.
- Damon's prayer prior to my message was very humbling.
- Great connecting with some college friends and missions partners today, you never know who is going to be in your audience,
- Did not see the baptismal waters stir today, but one man did recommit his life to Christ and aligned himself with the believers at FCCC, this never gets old.
- The spontaneous applause during the message tells me this church is prepared for a new leader.
- Attended my first grief counseling session on Monday, was surprised at how beneficial the counselor was in helping me with my grief.
- Her one take away last week - Write about your journey. I will not post it yet, but I think it will help me.
- I cooked salmon this week! And it was edible!
- With a hurricane off the Florida coast, the Weather Folks were kinda of pumped last week!
- College football is back, but it was a little stressful weekend, I prefer my team put their opponent away before the 4th quarter.
- I miss Kathy asking me, "Do we really need to watch the game AND the highlights"
- To my preacher friends if you have not purchased this book yet, you need to do it tomorrow!
- First a Ben Hur remake and now the Magnificent Seven remake; is Hollywood running out of ideas?
- Is it too early for Pumpkin Spice?

Sunday Night Reflections
A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Preached at Fort Caroline Christian Church again today.
- Focus of the message - "Profiting from Problems"
- Quote #1 from today's message; You will only be remembered for two things; the problems you create and the problems you solve.
- Quote #2, Problems are like washing machines, they twist us, spin us, and knock us around... But in the end we come out cleaner, brighter, and better than before.
- Wonderful mix of worship hymns and praise music. When music is done right, it has a powerful impact in the worship service.
- To my preacher friends if you are interested in talking to me about Fort Caroline feel free to drop me a line, I think it is a good opportunity.
- I have my first grief counseling session tomorrow, I really do not know what to expect. All I know is the longer time passes, the more I miss her.
- I have purchased my wings and nachos for Saturday; Yep, college football is back. I will not be available Saturday.
- What do you mean we still have 2 more months of the political circus?
- I recently completed reading the book of Ezra in my daily Bible reading. It is amazing how God used pagan kings to bring blessings to his people. This may be a comforting thought for us as well, in light of the upcoming election - God is still in control.
- As much as I enjoy preaching, I really miss worshiping at Kissimmee Christian Church.
- Something to Chew On; Once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survived. You won't even be sure the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked into the storm. ~ Haruki Murakami

A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Preached at First Christian Church of Orlando this morning. So good to be back "home" with so many good friends.
- Today's message came from Galatians 5 and the Fruits of the Spirit. Today's fruit; Patience.
- Patience is defined as a calm endurance based on a certain knowledge God is in control.
- A Mature Christian is a patient Christian, the less patient you are the less mature in Christ you are!
- The moment you look out in the audience and see you former Old Testament professor AKA Doc Smith, in the audience can be a little intimidating, so glad I was not preaching from the OT today.
- Quick trip to Tallahassee this past week as well, Sometimes I really feel like a road warrior!
- Preaching at First Christian Church this week marks the 157th church I have either preached in or presented the work of JUFL since Feb. 2011.
- I learned a new term this week; Grief Burst! Sometimes it happens when I least expect it! Will it ever get better?
- Whenever I hear that someone has cancer, I am compelled to pray for their journey!
- My niece is heading off to her first year of college this week, I am praying for you Allie! You will do fine! BTW Patti, she will be OK!
- 13 days and counting college football is almost here!
- This week marks the 40th year anniversary of the first class of CFBC, how can it be 40 years?
- Our students are back - so much for a peaceful campus.
- Something to Chew on; Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him ~ Psalm 37:7

Sunday Night Reflections
A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Preached at Fort Caroline Christian Church again this morning. The message was from Luke 15, taking a look at the forgiving father.
- I really did not understand forgiveness until I studied this passage a few year ago.
- It is comforting to know God is always waiting for sinners to come home.
- Like the father in the parable in Luke 15 God is always ready to forgive.
- I realized how much I miss Kathy as I concluded the message with an illustration about heaven, needless to say it was difficult. Lots of misty eyes in the audience and in the pulpit as well!
- I want my "old normal" back, the new normal is not working!
- In some ways it seems like it has been forever, and other days it seems like yesterday.
- Hey the dolphins are 1-0 I know it is preseason, but reserve your super bowl tickets now!
- New students arrive Friday. Let the adventure begin!
- Returning students arrive Thursday, it will be great seeing them return and hear stories about internships and their summer experiences.
- 4 Rivers in Kissimmee is open!
- I think we should make Fridays; 4 Rivers Fridays at JUFL.
- In 1998 I resigned as youth minister at FCC Orlando, next Sunday I return to preach for the first time since I left in 1998, kind of excited to be going back to preach!
- Why is there not a Red Robin in Kissimmee?
- Something to Chew on; My home is in Heaven, I am just traveling through this world. ~ Billy Graham

Sunday Night Reflections
A Few Thoughts from an Amazing Day...
- Returned to Fort Caroline Christian Church today.
- Preached on the Authority of God's Word.
- Living in a world where it is common to question all authority, it is comforting to know we have the living Word of God as our guide and companion.
- When one rejects the authority of God's word one finds only heartache, division, confusion and frustration. Does this not sound like our culture today?
- For such a small worship team this church has a incredible sound.
- Lunch at a local restaurant, Beach Road Chicken, food so bad for you but it taste so good!
- I really should not take a cholesterol test for a few days!
- Political ads scare me.
- When I was a child we would talk about a pleasurable Sunday drive, Sunday driving now is anything but pleasurable!
- After 5 1/2 years of driving around the state of Florida I can say the worse traffic is found in Orlando and the worse drivers are in Jacksonville. But that is just my opinion.
- First preseason football game is on tonight. It is getting close!
- Question, do I really need to go by the expiration dates on foods?
- Death has a way of causing us to face our absolute powerlessness.
- More and more I am finding music really helps me through the grieving process.
- Something to Chew on; No man has power over the wind to contain it; so no one has power over the day of his/her death. Ecclesiastes 8:8

- I am closing in on 95,000 miles on the school car, oh the places I have been in that little Fusion! Only one time has it been out of Florida!
- If you are in Orange Park sometime, you have to stop and have lunch or dinner at the "Shrimp Shack" It is a hole in the wall, but it sure is good.
